Few forms of promotion rival the effectiveness of a well targeted and produced facebook ad campaign. Where do most small businesses go wrong?

They spend their resources developing the ads, but their ad campaign falls short. More often than not, it’s due to a lack of understanding on their part.

And who can blame them? The FB ad system is deep and complex. It can be massively overwhelming to dive in without any prior knowledge.

Fortunately for us, our favorite marketing guru, Kevin David, has developed a course intent on making you a master of all things FB advertising.

He’s equipped his tightest fitting shirts and has consumed tens out thousands of milligrams of caffeine to bring you this massively comprehensive masterclass (if you’ve watched any of his videos before, you know what I’m talking about).

There’s no doubt Kevin can make a great course. He’s got three other courses to his name - and I’d reckon this one is his most successful.

But is it worth your time and money? Is this course going to bring you the increase in ad revenue that it claims?

Money comes and goes, but time is finite. You only have so much time and every day you spend a little bit more (and you never know when you’re gonna run out).

We haven’t even discussed the price yet...

You guessed it. It costs a lot. But we’ll talk about that a bit later. 

But first…

WHO IS KEVIN DAVID?

Kevin David is one of the most popular names in online courses. He’s created successful programs teaching the ins and outs of Shopify, Amazon FBA, Clickfunnels, and more!

After graduating Summa Cum Laude from Oregon State Honors College, Kevin David began his career working as an Accountant for PriceWaterhouseCoopers, an accounting firm in Portland, Oregon.

Although a seemingly prestigious position with nearly 500 applicants for only one consulting position, Kevin quickly realized that working 80 hour weeks for someone else was not the life he was meant to live.

Kevin transitioned careers and began working as a Privacy Consultant at Facebook in Menlo Park, California. Kevin, like many others, had always dreamed of working at Facebook; they are known for having some of the most generous employee perks in the world, Including on-site doctors & free food!

While this job was a significant improvement to his prior career, Kevin again knew that he was not destined to work for anyone else, regardless of the extravagant perks.

Let me be clear, I am not making any money writing this review. I do not know Kevin and I am not his affiliate.

I am not selling his course.

I’m writing this review because I am passionate about Digital Marketing. I’ve been making money on the internet for a long, long time.

COVID rocked the boat for many of us. More than ever before, people are flocking to digital marketing as a way to make money from home; honest, hard-working people just trying to make a new living.

My goal is to guide newcomers down the right path using my knowledge and expertise on the subject.

There are a lot of scammers and false gurus out there trying to make a buck off of naivete’. And let me clear: Kevin is not a scammer.

He charges a steep price, though, and this course may not be right for you. Or perhaps it’s just what you need!

Give this course summary a thorough read before you make your purchase. Hopefully I give you the information you need to allow you to make the decision that is best for you.

Facebook Ads Ninja - Key Points

  • A comprehensive guide on the mastering of facebook advertising systems and methodology.

  • Enthusiastic and massively comprehensive. Everything you could possibly want to know about facebook advertising is included in one course. Videos are engaging and are well produced. Comes with an accompanying PDF guide. If you want to learn about FBA, this course has everything you need.
  • Steep price. Information can be found elsewhere for free. If you tend to be cynical and untrusting, Kevin will probably come off as a bit grating. At times the course can get muddled and reduntant. 
  • Kevin David’s FB Ads Ninja course is exhaustingly comprehensive, complete with engaging and well produced video content (and complimentary PDF guide). Could provide a valuable asset for the established and financially secure business owner, but may be a bit overpriced for the beginner. Especially considering most of the content can be found for free on the web.

LENGTH: Roughly 15 hours of video content and accompanying video guide.

INTRODUCTION

Kevin comes out swinging. His enthusiasm is the blood that pumps through his veins.

He drops the sales pitch. “This is the greatest and most comprehensive FBA course you’ll ever take.”

Followed by his equally comprehensive and ever-evolving biography.

Kevin states the importance of having FBA knowledge - and that there are a lot of people out there willing to pay for that knowledge (just like you)!

But the acquisition of that knowledge doesn’t come easy. You gotta work for it!

“This is not a get rich quick scheme,” Kevin emphasizes, “The FBA model is complex and iterative and requires deep knowledge of one's customer base.”

Time. Dedication. Money.

The belief in one’s self!

If you don’t have these already, maybe keep that $1400 in your pocket and re-evaluate what you’re doing.

Anyhow, it’s a nice intro video. And I personally think Kevin comes off as a nice dude. He’s genuinely inspirational and his energy is infectious.

I’ve taken his other courses and they’re always extremely well made. This one is no exception.

Let’s get into the meat of this course!

Module 1: Understanding Facebook Ads

  • Setting up your Facebook business page and Facebook Business Manager
  • How to set up and use the Facebook pixel efficiently
  • Creating powerful lead magnets, custom audiences, and basic sales funnels

Module one is a proper introduction to not only FBA, but to Facebook pages in general.

He encourages his students to create a professional and polished looking FB page. Simple stuff, but it’s something that could be easily overlooked by a newcomer.

This is followed by a quick walk-through in setting up an FB business manager (which is necessary if you want to run ads).

It’s important to use relevant search terms that are easily recognizable via google searches, so that your page is the one to show up if it is searched for.

He then goes over the FBA vocabulary.

CAMPAIGN: The highest level when creating ads, which ad sets and ads fall under.

AD SET: Used for targeting, the ad set allows you to focus on customer interest, demographics, and behaviors. The best practice is to have 4-8 ads in one set, each with their own focus, which allows for testing.

AD: This is the advertisement that the customer actually sees.

CUSTOM AUDIENCE:  The building blocks of targeting on facebook. They can be used by themselves, or as the “seed” audiences that lookalike audiences are created from.

LOOKALIKE AUDIENCE: A lookalike audience uses the ridiculous mass of data Facebook has on all of their users to create a similar audience to your customer seed audience. Usually the lookalike audience is slightly more targeted compared to the more broad custom audience.

FACEBOOK PIXEL: A webstore function that tracks user information so that if someone visits your webstore, you can retarget them with ads for your product after they have left. Great for targeting customers who were close to making a purchase, but didn’t.

SALES FUNNEL:  A website that has the sole purpose of funneling your prospective customers into paying customers.

LEAD MAGNET: A “free” piece of information or demo product that customers acquire via exchanging their information (aka their email address or phone number).

WARM TRAFFIC: A potential customer who is already familiar or interested in your product.

AUDIENCE INSIGHTS: The demographic information (and more) of your customers based on their interests via pages and content they have liked on FB. Allows for more direct targeting.

GOOGLE TRENDS: Allows you to associate keywords with geographical locations and which demographics are most interested in that keyword.

CONCLUSION:

This module serves to catch new FBA users up to speed.

For some, this is an entirely new world of jargon or methodology, so while the content may be a bit rote, it is still very necessary.

In general, the tools at hand for FBA targeting are nothing short of incredible and effective when used correctly.

In future modules, Kevin discusses how to refine your focus and ad copy like a pro, so lets keep going!

Module 2: How to Go From Complete Beginner to Facebook Ad Master

This module serves to catch new FBA users up to speed. For some, this is an entirely new world of jargon or methodology, so while the content may be a bit rote, it is still very necessary.

In general, the tools at hand for FBA targeting are nothing short of incredible and effective when used correctly.

In future modules, Kevin discusses how to refine your focus and ad copy like a pro, so lets keep going!

There is a lot to cover in Module 2, but it is by far one of the most important modules in Kevin’s course. It’ll guide you through everything from setting up campaign objectives to minimizing spending on your ads.

Kevin’s general philosophy is to treat your customers like friends and less like a commodity.

You have to believe that you’re adding something valuable to their lives and then work on building the relationship. This ultimately results in sales.

Kevin starts off by giving some advice on installing the FB pixel, which is imperative to being able to target warm customers.

Setting up a pixel may seem a bit confusing at first, but remember, it allows you to retarget potential customers who are already interested in your product.

Think, someone who put that amazing hoodie from your webstore in their shopping cart, but ultimately failed to make a purchase. You can target that person directly with an ad showcasing the same product, or maybe something else.

This happened to me the other day. I was browsing a webstore checking out snapback hats, but decided at the time that I was too lazy to fill out my credit card information.

A few days later an ad mysteriously popped up in my facebook feed...

The hat is now sitting on my head. And damn right it was worth the purchase (it’s a dope hat). 

Show respect for you ideas by giving them the ad campaign that they deserve!

MODULE 3: How to Create Your Ultra-Targeted Audiences

  • How to Target Customers Using Demographic Data, Behaviors, and Interests
  • Creating Custom Audiences from Ad Campaigns and Pixel Events
  • Scaling Your Data to Create Powerful Lookalike Audiences

So you’ve made your product.

You’ve likely sacrificed more than just time to bring it to reality. People put a lot of things on hold to see an idea that they believe in come to life.

In the last chapter we talked about the different kinds of ads, but now we’re going to learn how to place your brand in front of the customers it deserves.

Kevin is going to show you how to find the perfect audience for you to advertise your product to.

Fortunately, all of the websites and applications that we use (especially facebook) constantly track user data. Facebook probably knows more about you than you do.And lemme tell ya, it knows a lot about your customers.

So we’re going to use this data to identify, in great detail, who is most likely to buy your product.

AUDIENCE INSIGHTS:

As Kevin puts it, the audience insights tool lets you find information straight from the source.

Let’s say you’ve developed a DIY Mars Rocketry and Space Travel Kit.

Forget Elon, sometimes the most brilliant are beaten to the punch. You’ve been slaving at this project in your garage for decades. And now it’s time to finally let the average person bring themselves and their families to Mars.

It may be a one way ticket, but you are certain this will change the world.

Before you do anything else, Kevin instructs you to type in keywords related to your product.

In this case, I typed in “Mars”.

From just the basic data, we can tell that the majority of the DIY MARS customer base are going to be married men with a college level education.

This example is pretty basic.

Throughout the rest of the module, Kevin shows you how to narrow down customer data with greater and greater focus using page likes and the all powerful Google Trends.

The targeting metrics for Facebook are absolutely massive and Kevin states that it's important to consider multiple metrics.

Do the research. Take notes. Decide which metrics are most relevant to what you’re selling and then decide the various targets your campaign will be based upon.

PLACEMENTS + CUSTOM and LOOKALIKE AUDIENCES:

Facebook makes money when you make money.

But if you want to make money before facebook makes money, as Kevin states, never choose automatic placements.

He recommends split testing your mobile and desktop feeds as well as running different ads between IG, FB, and Messenger. Automatic placements for one reason or another, just do not perform as compared to when you run target ads on specific platforms. It takes a little more time to set up, but is always worth it.

Split test the platforms and invest in the ones that perform the best. 

Why is split testing, in particular, so important?

(Kevin really hammers in the point… “The person who split tests the most wins!”

Because it allows you to test multiple different groups of people to show your ad to before you drop a ton of cash on a big campaign.

The data will then show you who is going to be the most profitable.

For example, you could split test your ad to both men and women equally.

What if it turned out that Women, despite being overall less interested in Mars travel, were the ones buying your DIY kit.

Perhaps this means that they may like the idea of sending just their husbands to Mars...

These are things you can find out via split testing that generalized demographic data doesn’t always reveal.

Kevin then goes over custom and look-alike audiences that are based around your pixel, which can completely transform your business.

Utilizing pixel provided a huge turning point for Kevin’s own business.

CONCLUSION:

Failure and success as a marketer often comes down to determination when it comes to testing.

But understanding how to properly identify and target your audience is just as important.

It’s often where unknowing small businesses fall short. It is imperative for all new business owners to have an understanding of Facebook’s diverse toolset and algorithmic power to mine it’s unimaginable levels of data.

Therefore, this may be the most important module in the course. But hey, let’s keep it going!

MODULE 4: How to Create Effective Ad Copy

You’ve found your audience. You’ve gone over the data. Now it’s time to create that perfect ad. 

In Module 4, Kevin covers:
  • Writing Engaging Ad Copy
  • Finding Inspiration For Your Ads
  • Finding What Works and Modeling Ads After Successful Marketers

People go on Facebook because they want to connect with their friends and family, not to be advertised to.

Therefore, you’ll want to dress your ads in a conversational tone - one that reflects the way people communicate on Facebook. You’ll need to develop a brand voice.

Humor and wit go a long way. People respond most often to ads that spark a feeling.

One of the absolutely most important things you can do with your ad (Kevin is spot on here) is respond to every single comment.

Making your customers feel connected will result in sales. 

USING PSYCHOLOGY TO YOUR ADVANTAGE:

An important point that Kevin drives home is that you should be using human faces in your ads.

Ideally, faces that convey an emotion.

Identify the emotion you’d like to convey in your ad and pair it with a photo of a face. Pick a photo that immediately captures your attention when searching on google images. Say you have an energy drink company...

There’s no way this ad will not be seen on facebook. It screams that I have a product that improves upon what is currently on the market and uses a face that cannot be mistaken for anything other than nasty. 

Took me two minutes to create - and I found the image on google. 

I suppose I should get to creating an energy drink that actually tastes good. 

Remember, if you can evoke feelings you will make sales.

I used a negative emotion to base my ad around. But there are a lot of emotions to choose from.

Kevin states that when in doubt, just use a picture of a smiling girl (and he is right).

I’d reckon to say that at least half of all FB picture-based ads have a smiling girl in them.

The rest of the course shows how you can view profitable ads from facebook and gives numerous examples of perfect ads that you can draw inspiration from.

He also goes over how to optimize your ad and concludes with a thoughtful and informative section on how to create the perfect ad (which is particularly worth your time). 

CONCLUSION:

Creativity is a gift. There’s a reason that companies pay millions of dollars to ad companies to design their ad campaigns.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer, graphic artist, or videographer to make an effective ad. You just need to be creative and follow the structure which Kevin has outlined.

Be encouraged to have fun, get creative, and go with your gut on this kind of stuff. Humans are generally attracted to the same things.

What grabs your attention will likely grab the attention of others.

Combined with the data analysis and testing of module three, you’ll be well on your way to becoming the ad master the world has always needed!

MODULE 5: How to be Profitable

You don’t need normal expenses, like an office, cost of goods, and supplies for a steady income if you create your own ad agency.

Creativity, work ethic, and a thorough understanding of the subjects taught in Kevin’s FB Ads Ninja course are really all that is required.

In this Module, Kevin shows you how to scale your ad agency business to the moon, if you so desire. Let’s get started!

So what exactly is an FB ad agency?

It’s really just a nice way of saying you’re charging businesses to create and manage their social media advertising.

Remember, most businesses have no idea how to take advantage of the full tool set that FBA has to offer. A shame for them, really… but not for you (if you’ve been paying attention thus far). 

Through this section, you’ll learn all there is to know about the Facebook ads agency model so you can get your own up and running.

You’ll learn how to develop a monthly workflow and how to attain and retain clients! 

This module is likely the biggest selling point for most people purchasing his course - and he shares no expense when it comes to enthusiasm for the subject.

He really believes that starting up your own ad agency can change your life. Most certainly it can.

He starts off by telling you why the services are so important in 2020 and then leads into showing which businesses are most in need to ad services (and how to score clients).

Dentists, Lawyers, Gyms, Restaurants ect…He calls em’ “low hanging fruit”.

They’re generally businesses that make a lot of money and have owners/employees with a lower than average understanding of technology. 

He also goes over how you can land clients over the phone and through email lists.

If any of this sounds familiar to you, then you’re probably involved in lead gen (which this is directly based upon).

It’s probably the most valuable part of this section. Kevin encourages you to offer your services for free at first until you have established yourself - and honed your skills - to start charging what you are worth.

And with great work comes more and more clients. With more great work comes an increased value for your service. Revenues can increase exponentially if you follow his model.

CONCLUSION:

Creating a facebook ads agency is one of the most unique business opportunities out there.

Through this dense, but informative module, it is clear this is something Kevin really believes in.

He doesn’t make light of the pursuit’s inherent difficulty. 99 out of 100 will fail (but it is likely that 99/100 didn’t take his course).

According to Kevin, you only need four small businesses (if you use his model) to make more than the average american.

Overall, it’s a great module. But we have one more left (plus the bonus content) - so keep with me here!

MODULE 6: How to Retarget, Optimize, and Scale to the Moon

The final model focuses on the magic of retargeting, which is truly the secret to running profitable ads on facebook.

In this module you’ll learn: 

  • How to Run an Ad Campaign From Start to Finish
  • How you Can Split-Test Ads Across All Channels Efficiently and Effectively
  • How to Drive Traffic to Any Content
  • How to Generate Unlimited Leads From Anywhere

Kevin starts off saying that the Ad life cycle…

1. Begins with reaching your customers to let them know who you are…
2. Continues with driving traffic to start building pixel data from your website…
3. Concludes with profitable, money making campaigns which are conversions.

Conversion campaigns are the driving force behind making facebook sales. The more and more pixel data you have, the more facebook learns about your customer’s habits.

The more facebook knows, the more data you have at your disposal. Kevin refers back to split testing - and how it is one of the most important things you can learn about FBA. 

We are taught the details of split testing and how to do it perfectly right out of the gate.

With Facebook’s new system, you can now create hundreds of split tests. It might sound a bit overwhelming, but it is incredibly powerful. Kevin outlines how to do this in detail.

This section will save you the hassle of having to manually navigate the process on your own.

Additionally, it shows how to automatically split-test a single ad creation and set up a framework of rules to allow the FB algorithm to decide whether to scale or stop an ad based on set limitations.

Ads are retargeted to have taken an action like visiting a site, signing up for an email list, or putting an item in their shopping cart. If executed correctly, retargeting and custom audiences can make you a ton of money.

In short, it creates a constant data feedback loop. Hope you have an insatiable appetite for data (and more customers). 


There is additional information ranging on how to spy on your competition, to going live on your facebook page, to numerous retargeting hacks. It's all very useful stuff.

CONCLUSION

This module is massively comprehensive, if not a bit overwhelming at times.But Kevin keeps things about as concise as he can.

However, it does get a bit redundant, especially considering a lot of it is covered earlier in the course.The extra detail is necessary, though.

The videos in this section are particularly focused and very helpful. Easily the best and most informative videos of the course.

Is This Course Worth the Cash?

$1400/$1997 is a lot of money...

Kevin charges a steep price. Whether you like him or not, he’s a master in his field. He really knows his stuff and he can clearly charge what he thinks his course is worth.

In general, getting into the Kevid David world opens you up to all of his facebook groups. He also hosts a ton of free content on his youtube channel, which has close to a million subs at this point.

Despite his article being more of a summary rather than I review, I’d like to go over some of my feelings on it.

Here Are the Positives:

Sure, there are a ton of sources online that can provide you with the same information, but Kevin’s level of detail and the overall comprehensiveness of the course is really valuable.

Youtube videos often have you skirting around from one to another. The better ones will eventually lead into a paywall.

The nice thing about all of Kevin’s courses is that all of the information is right there in front of you. You won't find yourself stumbling around the internet wasting your time with crappy how-to guides.

This course, simply put, is one of the best courses on the subject I have ever seen (and I’ve been through many of them, trust me).

He is enthusiastic and clearly loves to teach. He’s someone whose energy is infectious.  If you find Kevin off-putting initially, by the end of this course it’s likely you’ll really come to appreciate who he is and what he does.

I found myself constantly impressed by the way he would frame something. The whole split testing section is really brilliant. Module 2 and 3 are both absolute gems. 

Here Are the Negatives:

The organization, at times, can be a bit random. There’s a redundancy to things, too, which is most apparent in the final module.

You’ll find that many of the videos are repeating the same information over and over. I understand the need to nail in certain points, but it becomes really apparent after you find yourself spending 12+ hours listening to him speak. 

The only other annoyance I had was fairly frequent affiliate pitches and alternative course promos.

He’s got his hands in a lot of different places...

I don’t blame him for promoting his work. I mean, I would, too, if I were him. But again, after a week of watching and reading Kevin non stop, it just simply gets tiresome. 

The Final Verdict

Kevin David’s FB Ads Ninja course is exhaustingly comprehensive, complete with engaging and well produced video content (and complimentary PDF guide). Could provide a valuable asset for the established and financially secure business owner, but may be a bit overpriced for the beginning. Especially considering most of the content can be found for free on the web.

ADDITIONAL DIGITAL MARKETING BUSINESS OPTIONS

THERE ARE OTHER, MORE RELIABLE BUSINESS OPTIONS TO FREE YOURSELF FROM THE 9-5.

I’ve been involved with digital marketing for a long time now.

Ranking websites is where your sharpened work ethic comes in. It’s also free, because it’s something you can do.

In my six+ years of doing this, I have ranked hundreds and hundreds of websites.

Each website generates between $500-$2000 a month.Below is one of the first sites I ever made, which I created in 2015. They have been paying me ever since!
